Abstract

The absorption spectra of methyl amine, methyl amine-d2, methyl-d3 amine and methyl-d3 amine-d2 have been measured photoelectrically in the 1050-2500 {\AA} region with a 1-m monochromator having a 1.0\AA band-width. Only the first two electronic transitions at 2150 and 1740\AA show extensive vibrational structure. The deuterium derivatives have aided in the vibrational analysis of the previously unassigned 1740\AA band. The electronic structure of methyl amine will be discussed in relation to that of ammonia and other simple alkyl amines.
