Abstract
The polarized single-crystal reflection spectra of $K_{2}PtBr_{4}$ and $K_{2}PdBr_{4}$ have been determined. These spectra and the absorption spectra obtained through their Kramers-Kronig analysis will be presented. The polarization of the ``single-molecule' transitions will be deduced from these results and comparison made to findings obtained in a similar investigation of the corresponding tetrachloro complexs. The transitions observed in these studies and their polarization will be discussed in terms of current theories of the electronic structure of planar complexes and their relationship to previously-reported studies on such complexes [J. Chem. Phys. 46, 1090 [1967] and J. Am. Chem. Soc., 89, 6114 [1967]] will be brought out.
