Abstract

It has often been written that the observed intensity in externally stimulated Raman effect is proportional to the square of the $pressure.^{1,2}$ Precise measurements show, however, that at low pressure the intensity is proportional to the pressure. This result may be used for Stokes as well as for anti-Stokes lines. A theoretical explanation is given.
