Abstract

Results of limited test excavation conducted for the City of Jackson at the site of 19th C. salt wells in Jackson, Ohio, are described. Fire-broken brick, earthenware dating to the 1820-1830 period, and fragments of iron salt kettles were excavated, consistent with the historic dating of the site. The history of nearby Boone Rock, associated with Daniel Boone's captivity, is also reviewed.
