Abstract

The 3460 - 3015 {\AA} band system of I2 has been tentatively assigned1 to the 3Π2g 3Π2u transition of I2. In the course of investigating this system as a candidate for an e-beam initiated laser the collision deactivation rates of the 3427 {\AA} vibrational band by argon and krypton were measured. In addition, the collisional deactivation rate of the 3427 {\AA} vibrational band by ground state I2 was measured and an estimate of the Lifetime of the upper state of the 3427 {\AA} transition was obtained.
