Abstract

The solid state infrared spectra for a number of cyanocarbon anion radicals, noted for a high degree of conjugation, are characteristically simple when compared with the spectra of the parent molecules. It is believed that this simplicity results from the radical electrons being exceptionally free and thus capable of correlating with the vibrational dipoles. Other implications and possible applications of the ``absence of intensity'' will be discussed.
