Abstract

Vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) of amino acids and peptides in the medium infrared region above $2000 cm^{-1}$ will be presented. Vibrational assignments of observed frequencies, corresponding to the stretching motions of hydrogen and deuterium, will be given using both infrared and Raman spectral data. Interpretation of the observed VCD will be made in terms of molecular structure and environment. Molecules of particular interest in this work are alanine and some simple alanyl oligopeptides.
