Abstract

The nitrogen Laser excited fluorescence spectrum of gas phase $CS_{2}$ consists of a series of sharp peaks superimposed on an apparent continuum. The peaks arise from the $v^{\prime}_{2}=(t+3)$ vibronic Level of the T $^{1}A_{2}$ state and are uniformly quenched in a strong magnetic field. The continuous emission is unaffected by the magnetic field. These results are discussed and are compared to the results obtained by others for the magnetic quenching of Laser excited $NO_{2}$.
