Abstract

The nitrogen Laser excited fluorescence spectrum of gas phase CS2 consists of a series of sharp peaks superimposed on an apparent continuum. The peaks arise from the v2=(t+3) vibronic Level of the T 1A2 state and are uniformly quenched in a strong magnetic field. The continuous emission is unaffected by the magnetic field. These results are discussed and are compared to the results obtained by others for the magnetic quenching of Laser excited NO2.
