Abstract

A number of heavy diatomic molecules, including $Bi_{2}, Pb_{2}$, PbBi, $Se_{2}, SnSe$, and GeS, each in solid rare gas matrices, have been subjected to-laser irradiation and the resulting emission spectra have been examined. In most cases, hitherto unreported vibronic hand systems have been observed. Tunable dye laser sources have been used to probe the nature of the coupling of the vibronic states of the trapped molecule with the phonon states of the host lattice. These and other aspects of the spectra will be reported.
