Abstract

Recently quantum yield measurements have shown phosphorescence enhancement in phenyl-substituted methanes. A spin-orbit enhancement mechanism seems $indicated.^{1}$ This paper reports calculations of spin-orbit matrix elements relevant to radiative and radiationless processes involved in determinimg triplet state lifetimes for the series of molecules toluene, diphenyl methane, triphenyl methane. The effect of geometry is assessed.
