Abstract
The fundamental $\nu_{4}$ vibration-rotation band of $CH_{3}CN$ has been studied by using $CO_{2}$ and $N_{2}O$ lasers and electric field tuning of the molecular absorption lines. About 100 resonances corresponding to low J, K P and R transitions have been observed so far. Since the K structures of the individual P and R transitions are completely resolved, an accurate value of the variation of A is obtained. The analysis also gives information on the centrifugal distortion constants, dipole moment and the band center with high accuracy. Two-photon spectroscopy of $CH_{3}CN$ is underway.
