Abstract

Trapping experiments of molecular beams of butadiene generated by the Knudsen cell kept at temperatures between $300-1100^\circ K$ in argon matrices will be reported. Analysis of IR-matrix spectra shows that a second conformer is present, increasing in concentration with increasing Knudsen cell temperatures. From intensity measurements an estimate of $2.5 + 0.5$ kcal / mole as the difference in free energy of the two conformers is obtained.
