Abstract

A rapid NMR technique for assigning ketoxime stereochemistry will be presented. Treating benzene solutions of ketoximes with concentrated hydrochloric acid vapor causes signals due to $\alpha$-protons syn to the oximino hydroxyl group to shift to higher field, while anti-alpha proton signals move to lower field. The involvement of collision complexes between aromatic solvent and oxime hydrochlorides in producing these changes will be discussed.
