Abstract

In the only earlier work on the emission spectrum of the BS $molecule^{1}$ a complex system of bands was reported but not analyzed. We have confirmed the identification through the use of boron and sulfur isotopes. Rotational analysis of high resolution photographs shows that the transition is $^{2}\Sigma-^{2}\Pi$, in which the lower state is Zeeman's state A. The $^{2}\Sigma$ state exhibits a spin-doubling constant of nearly $0.09 cm^{-1}$. A new band system has been found in the same region. Its rotational structure also will be discussed. Support by the Advanced Research Projects Agency through the U. S. Army Research Office-Durham.
