Abstract
Two sequences of the quartet system of $NO^{1}$ at 7900 {\AA} $(\Delta \nu = 4)$ and at 8700 {\AA} $(\Delta \nu = 3)$ have been rephotographed at high resolution. The spectra were obtained from a dc discharge in a supersonically expanding $jet^{2}$ of He + NO. The low rotational temperature achieved in the jet ($\sim 50 ^{\circ}K)$ results in a striking simplification of the previously very congested band structures, making it possible to proceed with a detailed rotational analysis.
