Abstract

A sensitive technique to obtain excitation difference spectra using an identically prepared pair of beam + gas reactions and a matched detector pair is described. The system allows removal of nearly all shot to shot laser noise while measuring subtle differences in molecular beam state-to-state reactions. Applications to the reactions of group IIA metals with vibrationally excited hydrogen halides will be discussed.
