Abstract
Lines in the (3,1) band of the $B^{3}\Pi_{0}^{+}$ - $X^{1}\Sigma^{+}$ system of IC1 have been recorded in absorption using a Fabry-Perot interferometer spectrometer. A striking increase in line-widths is observed for transitions ending on excited-state rotational levels above J^{\prime} = 37. Examination of the probable causes of the broadening in the spectrum points to shortened excited-state life-times and yields $3 \times 10^{-11}$ sec. for the life-time of $I^{35}$C1 in the $J^{\prime} = 41$ level. The predissociation responsible for this short life-time l be discussed.
