Abstract
The introduction of the rapid scan accessory to Jobin Yvon’s Ramanor HG-2S enables resolution of time dependent changes in Raman spectra generated by chemical changes or physical perturbations. Once attached or retrofitted to the Ramanor’s wavenumber drive, the rapid scan accessory need not be removed since the normal modes of operation, of the instrument are maintained; when not activated the cam returns to the rest position, which brings the wavenumber drive to its normal calibration point. Time resolution is in the domain of seconds with total range of operation (which is linear in wavenumber) between 50 and $300\, cm^{-1}$. After selecting the starting wavenumber position, the range in wavenumbers of a sweep and the time per sweep, the Raman signals from the photomultiplier detector are recorded on an oscilloscope or other fast transient recording device. A full description of the mechanical design of the fast scan accessory will be presented, as well as some applications to chemical and physical problems.
