Abstract

The acyl fluoride of cyclopropylcarboxylic acid has been prepared and transitions have been observed in species with the oxygen atom cis and trans to the cyclopropane ring. Transitions with a-type selection rules predominate in the trans species whereas both a and b-type transitions have been observed for the cis species. In the cis species the CF bond eclipses a CH bond, duplicating a similar eclipsed configuration found in $cyclopropylcarboxaldehyde,^{1,2}$ The dipole moments of both species have been determined and transitions in excited vibrational states have been observed.
