Abstract

A systematic study has been made of the formation of bimolecular complexes containing sulfur dioxide. Weakly bound species containing SO2 and one of is other small molecules have been formed. The molecules studied ranged in size from N2 to acetone. In each case, a supersonic nozzle expansion of argon containing SO2 and a second molecule was studied as a function of SO2 and molecular partner concentration. For each partner molecule, X, the intensities of SO2X,ArX,ArSO2,(Ar)2,(X)2, and (SO2)n were measured. Simple trends in this data were easily identified and will be discussed. Those complexes suitable for microwave spectroscopic study will also be identified.
