Abstract
Vacuum ultraviolet spectroscopic studies of the Group IVa atoms will be reviewed. The Multichannel Quantum Defect Theory (MQDT) analysis of the $mp(^{2}$p)ns and mp $(^{2}$p)md Rydberg configurations of C, Si, Ge, Sn, and Pb will be discussed. Comparisons between these analogous spectra and their MQDT parameterizations will be presented, and correlations with more conventional structural representations discussed.
