Abstract

In order to fully control the level of mercury contaminants in our waters, we not only have to know what quantity is present but in what molecular forms mercury can occur. Armed with this information we can begin to understand the chemistry of the pollution cycle. The Raman spectra of a series of organic and inorganic mercury compounds will be shown and the potential application of these data to the study of mercury pollution will be discussed.
