Abstract

As a student participant at The Ohio State University's Recreation & Physical Activity Center, I have observed that the vast majority of group fitness class participants are female. The purpose of this study is to identify participation trends in group fitness classes, the reasons behind the lack of male participation, and whether or not there is a benefit to promoting group fitness classes to males. These questions are answered through a literature review of related previously conducted studies and a survey administered to male students who attend the Recreation & Physical Activity Center.
