Abstract

The intramolecular vibrational relaxation (IVR) of a Si-H second overtone band and C-H first overtone band in methylsilane has been examined by measuring the high resolution infrared spectrum with the molecular beam optothermal technique in conjunction with a power buildup cavity. The Si-H stretch [local mode (3,0,0), both A and E combinations] is compared with the nearly isoenergetic C-H stretch [predominantely the $2\nu_{7}0$ band]. Both spectra show evidence of sparse to intermediate degrees of IVR The nature of both relaxations will be compared in detail at the conference. The observation of these weak overtones was made possible by using a power buildup cavity which enhanced the color center laser power of 25 mW by some 600 times.
