Abstract

The three isomeric tetrachlorocyclopropanes (C3H2Cl4) (I, II and III) have been synthesized in highly stereospecific yields by reacting the appropriate dichloroethylene with phenyl (bromodichloromethyl) mercury. [FIGURE] Infrared and Raman spectra have been obtained for all three isomers in solid, liquid and vapor phases. The spectral data have been interpreted in detail and are consistent with the expected C2v,C2 and CS structures for I, II and III, respectively. A normal coordinate analysis for each isomer is in progress and preliminary results will be discussed.
