Abstract

The $\nu_{4}$ band of silane has been recorded with a resolution of about $0.06 cm^{-1}$ in the range from 860 to 945 $cm^{-1}$. Assignments of all transitions in this range with $J^{\prime}$ $\leq$ 12 were made on the basis of frequency and relative intensity. Qualitative agreement with theory is good but quantitative agreement begins to break down above $J^{\prime}$ = 8, The effects of the strong Coriolis interaction with nearby $\nu_{2}$ on the effective band parameters of $V_{4}$ and on the breakdown of a single state effective Hamiltonian approximation are discussed.
