Abstract

Lepidoptera pheremones are acetate esters of straight chain olefinic alcohols. The low resolution microwave spectra of alkyl halides and trifluoro acetates of primary olefinic alcohols were measured to provide parameters for the prediction of pheremone conformations. An analysis of the alkyl halide spectra showed the presence of only the all-trans conformer and those gauche conformers in which only a single dihedral angle is gauche. The olefin spectra indicated that the preferential orientation of the chain to the double bond is approximately s-cis.
