Abstract

Using the method which Dows and $Buckingham^{1}$ applied to diatomic molecules, we have obtained expressions for the intensities of electric field induced transitions of axially symmetric molecules possessing a permanent dipole moment. Selection rules for these electric field spectra are found to be $\Delta J=0, \pm 2; \Delta K =0, \pm 1,\, \pm 2$. Observed frequencies would permit the determination of $A_{0}$ and other molecular parameters, while observed intensities would yield information on dipole moments.
