This thesis examines the impact of the development of the wristwatch on the First World War. It does so by laying out a pre-war conception of time in the first chapter. Chapter two traces the development of the trench watch and the various factors that influenced production. Chapter three examines the experience of time and how time affected combat on both the tactical and strategic levels.
