Abstract
The coal member of the Cretaceous-Tertiary North Horn Formation in central Utah was subjected to a paleomagnetic study. The virtual geomagnetic pole determined from these rocks was located at 163° W. long. and 84° N. lat., with a cone of confidence (alpha 95) of 15.64. A magnetic reversal was encountered in the section. This is the first reversal recorded in an oil shale. The magnetic intensities of these rocks was of the order of 10-6 emu/cm³.
