Abstract

A summary of our recent investigation of the conventional VIS-UV absorption and laser excitation spectroscopy of thiocarbonyl compounds is presented. The technique of flash pyrolysis coupled with long path length absorption spectroscopy has allowed for the detection of the unstable molecules thioformaldehyde (H2CS). thioacetaldehyde (CH3CHS), thioacetone ((CH3)2CS), thiopropynal (HCCCHS)2, thioacrolein (CH2=CHCHS) and thioformyl chloride (CHCl5). The more interesting features of the spectra of these molecules are presented as well as a discussion of the molecular dynamics as determined from the vibrational analysis.
