Abstract
The first laboratory detection of the ethynyl radical (CCH) in the gas phase was reported in 1979 by Saykally and $Evenson,^{1}$ who used far-infrared laser magnetic resonance to observe the $N = 6\rightarrow 7$ pure rotational transition of CCH in its $^{2}\sum $ ground state. A recent analysis of this spectrum has yielded an estimate of the centrifugal distortion constant. $D_{0}$, which enables us to predict all other rotational transitions with sufficient accuracy for radioastronomical searches. Using Erickson’s 200-300 GHz quasi-optical receiver at the Millimeter Wave Observatory of the University of Texas, we have detected the $N = 3 \rightarrow 2$ emission spectrum of CCH in several interstellar sources. Analysis of this spectrum in conjunction with $earlier^{2}$ astronomical results will be reported.
