Abstract

The many freshwater impoundments in the United States offer opportunities for the study of how water chemistry can vary due to geological settings and land use. Ten different small ponds from three counties in central Ohio were analyzed for dissolved constituents, including major ions, nutrients, and water isotopes. While some of the results were similar in all samples, significant variability was seen in several constituents, suggesting that environmental variability can affect the chemistry of the water in ponds, even those in close proximity to each other.
