Abstract
It has recently been $shown^{1}$ that accurate longitudinal optical (LO) mode frequencies of crystalline inorganic materials can be determined from simple infrared specular reflectance measurements using oblique angles of incidence. The incident (unpolarized) radiation is directed onto a surface of finely divided particles which has been mechanically deposited on a suitable substrate. The LO mode frequencies are best observed in reflected radiation which is polarized in the plane of incidence. The results of PSR measurements on a variety of oxides, nitrates, chlorates, and carbonates will be described and compared with previous measurements of LO mode frequencies determined by other methods.
