Abstract

Prolonged photolysis of CH2N2 in an Ar matrix at 4∘K produces HNC by the photolytic decomposition of the initially-produced $CH_{2} = $NH. Infrared observations on various isotopically substituted species confirm this identification and indicate that HNC is linear.
