Abstract

The LIF excitation and dispersed fluorescence spectra for the $\tilde{A}^{2}\Pi \leftrightarrow \tilde{X}^{2}\Sigma$ electronic transitions of MgNC have been recorded. The molecule was formed by laser ablation of magnesium in a supersonic expansion containing acetonitrile or cyanogen. The ground state vibrational frequencies have been measured. Analysis of the rotational contours in the LIF spectra are used to obtain excited state rotational constants.
