Abstract
Excitation energies and oscillator strengths for the excited singlet states of $SF_{6}$ are presented from Improved Virtual Orbital (IVO) calculations. The lowest state is the forbidden $^{1}T_{1_{g}} (1t_{1_{g}} \rightarrow 6a_{l_{g}})$ state, while the lowest allowed $^{1}T_{1_{u}}$ state corresponds to the $5t_{1_{u}} \rightarrow 6a_{1_{g}}$ transition. The $6a_{l_{g}}$ orbital is found to be valence-like, while the $7a_{1_{g}}$ orbital corresponds to the 4s Rydberg orbital.
