Abstract

Infrared spectra of LiF species suspended in several mixed matrices, e.g. $Ar+5% N_{2}$, have been recorded and a number of new absorption bands were found in these systems. Well defined side-bands were found for LiF species with nonrare gas nearest-neighbors. These absorptions provide additional experimental parameters for testing theoretical models of the interaction between LiF and other molecules. The trapping sites and tendency for the LiF species to diffuse will be discussed. It is suggested that annealing the matrix samples to induce crystallinity of the rare gas solid causes LiF species which do not fit comfortably into standard substitutional sites to diffuse most rapidly.
