Abstract

The $\nu_{1}$ fundamental band of $H_{2}D^{+}$ was observed in absorption with a difference frequency laser spectrometer. The transition wavenumbers were fit to an effective Hamiltonian to determine the molecular constants. The band origin was determined to be $2992.486(38) cm^{-1}$ which was about $7 cm^{-1}$ lower than the value from ab initio calculations. The accuracy of the molecular constants obtained was not as good as that expected from the accuracy of the measured wavenumbers $(0.002 cm^{-1})$, presumably due to the Coriolis interaction between the $\nu_{1}$ and $\nu_{3}$ states.
