Abstract

“Laser oscillation is now possible at a variety of wavelengths in the infrared region. In particular, operation with Xe-He mixtures provides monochromatic radiation at wavelengths from the near infrared to about $13 $mu. At some useful wavelength the amplification is so great that the construction of an operating laser is relatively simple. A frequency scan of the monochromic laser output by the spectrometer presents a precise display of the spectral slit function of the instrument. The observed patterns from improperly aligned spectrometers may be asymmetric or even display structure, and thus these patterns have diagnostic value in the optical adjustment of high resolution instruments.”
