Abstract

A previous study on the normal species, HBF2,1 indirectly estimated the position of the unseen inplane bending fundamental, ν6 via a small Coriolis perturbation. In an attempt to observe this fundamental directly, the deuterated analogue. DBF2 was prepared in situ and its infrared absorption spectrum was recorded between 700 and 920cm−1 using a high resolution Bomem DA3.002 FT-IR instrument. The strongest band in this region is the out-of-plane bending fundamental, v4. This type-C band is heavily perturbed by a second, as yet, unidentified vibrational state. The results of the assignment and analysis of the v4 band of DBF2 will be discussed, including the evaluation of a new set of ground state rotational constants for both D11BF2 and D10BF2. The nature of the perturbing vibration will also be discussed.
