Abstract

In view of the excellent results obtained for the internuclear distances in nitrous oxide from a study of the 15N218O bands in the near infrared,1 further high resolution observational data were obtained both in the near infrared (2−3μ region) as well as at the longer wavelengths (8 micron region). In the near infrared the resolving power was such that half value widths of about 0.025−0.03cm−1 were measured on unblended lines. A liquid helium cooled Ge:Hg detector was used at 8μ, and the resolution was slightly better than 0.05cm−1. The effects of Fermi resonance in the 15N218O molecule will be discussed employing the observational data for the following completed polyads: (1000,0200),(1110,0310),(1001,0201),(1111,0311),(2001,1201,0401).
