Abstract
This is an exploratory investigation into the possibilities of infrared spectroscopy in bacteriological research. To date the organism of chief concern has been the tubercle bacillus. It has been established that the fractions of this organism produced by extractions of the organism by various organic solvents have definite spectra. These spectra accordingly may be used to control the various operations used in growing and harvesting cultures, and in producing the fractions from the cultures. Some applications will be indicated.
