Abstract

A ceramic figurine submitted by Roseville artist and designer Sidney Cope as part of applying for head of the new Dept. of Ceramic Engineering at Ohio State University in 1927 is illustrated. Cope's application was delayed until after the position had been given to Arthur E. Baggs, and Cope found employment first at Mosaic Tile and then at the Nelson McCoy Pottery Co. in 1934. The figurine remains in the collection of the Arthur Baggs Memorial Library at Ohio State University.
