Abstract

This panel will highlight one of the world's most volatile sources of international conflict — the scarcity and equitable allocation of water — by discussing current efforts to deescalate potential conflicts over water, ease human suffering, and restore vital ecosystems, cultures, and economies in the Tigris-Euphrates watershed region.

This event will feature speakers from Turkey, Iraq, Kuwait, and the United States, including representatives of Hima Mesopotamia, an international NGO dedicated to stressing the importance of reaching across international borders to find solutions to the escalating ecological and humanitarian crisis occurring on the Tigris-Euphrates watershed.
