Abstract

In certain cases, dye molecules adsorbed from very dilute solutions onto cadmium sulfide can be shown to be singly adsorbed by the form of the action spectrum for sensitized photoconductivity of the substrate. It is possible to measure an external photoelectric effect arising from such singly adsorbed molecules, and thus to estimate their ionization energy. The energies so found are not greatly different from the work function of the solid massive dye.
