INFRARED-INFRARED DOUBLE RESONANCE AND POLARIZATION LABELING SPECTROSCOPY OF METHYL FLUORIDE

Abstract
We have observed for the first time infrared-infrared double resonance and polarization-labeling spectra. A $CO_{2}$ laser operating at $10 \mu m$ was used to pump rotation-vibration transitions in the $\nu_{3}$ bands of $^{12}CH_{3}F$ and $^{13}CH_{3}F$ and a Bomem DA3 Fourier-transform spectrometer was used to observe at high resolution $(0.004 cm^{-1})$ pumped molecules in the region of the $2\nu_{3} \leftarrow \nu_{3}$ transitions. The experiments employed a multi-pass cell to give a path length of about $20 m$. The observed spectra display the great simplification which is a principal advantage of the double resonance technique
