Abstract

Pure rotational transitions in the $v = 0$ and $v = 1$ vibrational levels of HCl and HBr up to approximately $J = 40$ have been observed in the emission from an alternating current electric discharge. The experimental results are compared with the predictions of Dunham's theory.
