Abstract
My STEP project was a four-week study abroad experience through Ohio State’s Global May Great Britain program. The program went through the month of May, from May 6th until June 1st. Most of the program resided in London and one weekend was spent in Edinburgh, Scotland. When in London, it was a true experience of living like a local, from taking the underground to class to buying food and exploring the city. My goals on the trip were too immerse myself in the culture of living in a new country and learning more about the history of Great Britain. The trip visited two major cities within the United Kingdom and taught me about the history and way of life in both places.
The academic rigor in this project consisted of in-class time, two hours, Monday through Thursday and the afternoon was spent visiting different parts of London that had been discussed in class. Also, one of William Shakespeare’s plays was read and discussed and then viewed at the Globe Theatre. Not only the history of Great Britain was taught and discussed on the trip but the modern day of life as a London local was observed from day to day travels. I took the course ARTSSCI 2798.03, which is an interdisciplinary tour that introduces the history, politics, and culture of Great Britain and counts towards a GE Open Option requirement.
