Abstract

The microwave spectrum of methlenecyclopentane has been recorded in the region 18.0 - 26.5 GHz. The spectrum of the ground state and six vibrational excited states of the two out-of-plane ring modes has been assigned. From relative intensity measurements, the frequencies for the two ring bending modes have been determined and a barrier to pseudorotation of 1.8 kcal/mole has been calculated. The dipole moment $\mu_{a}$ was determined to be $0.60 \pm 0.01D$.
